They are also a perfect excuse to ditch parties and gatherings you do not want to be a part of - 'I'm so sorry, I cannot join your 101st day wedding anniversary, my kid is unwell (they always have at least 1 body part which needs fixing)'
This is a) a staggeringly good piece, and b) a solid starting point on a thesis I'm keen to collaborate on.
I suspect there are parents who harbour secret wishes of becoming Olympic athletes. Their kids become good practice props for shot put, archery, shooting etc. Even weightlifting, sometimes.
And if not olympics atleast that of ‘aish’. Beta clear the tables. Beta make me a drink. Beta go get adrak from the market. And most importantly, acha chalo thoda pair daba do. Aur haath bhi. 🤣 oh should i have had kids??? 🥸
Absolutely! There is *so* much fodder. As is evident from the fact that I've managed to contrive an issue out of observations alone. Parents would have a load of BTS access. 😂
Damn! You do have a way with words and I sooooo could relate with the words, "I’ve spent many hours around their children and loved every bit of it. I do not see a contradiction here. I can enjoy the company of kids without wanting a child of my own."
Reading this especially after just sitting down for some mental peace after my toddler temper tantrum at 3am , was such a dopamine high. Thanks R. And do remain steadfast on your decision
I'm so glad this piece gave you some joy, Sudha. A temper tantrum at 3am sounds tough. I'm sure all the lovely, fulfilling times you share with your little one (that I know you've written about before in your newsletter) also help you tide over the tantrums. :)

Haha, excellent point. Normally I have to be pretend to be unwell to get out of party invitations.

Haha, yeah, this one for sure. So many chores that can be delegated.
And you think the betas are going to comply? Fat chance! None of these things have worked for me the past 14 years but one can live in hope!:-)
Ah, this is the sort of real-world insight that helps!
I told him to add an element of how parenting is an excuse to conduct "social experiments" on unsuspecting children.
Got rejected 🤷
that is for part 2. it is a thesis after all....
Correct. Making notes for the sequel. 🫡
Haha, thanks so much, Sarthak!
And, love the thesis idea. Let's do this! (You shotput reference made me imagine a Matilda/ Trunchbull situation.)
I suspect some parents are in the content business 🤠
