Yayy!! Simran is in the house!!! Also why y’all got to insult Megatron and all Indian names starting with M, man!! Call him Meghu?? Call him Tron Call him Opus, call him anything *but* Meghu or Mangesh!! Jeeez, man!!
Utterly hilarious writeup as always Rohan! Sigh, and i have never named my appliances! Such a waste of my imagination and all the free mental space I had growing up! Sigh!!
Dang! How did I miss this gem? Your Oppie post hit way too close to home. I had to let go of my car three weeks ago, thanks to Delhi NCR's ridiculous 15-year rule. It doesn't matter if it's in superb condition; age is everything.
Unlike you, I never gave mine a name, but I loved it just as much. Wanted to scrap it rather than sell, but family intervened. So with a heavy heart, I sold it off to another state instead.
Here's to new adventures with your latest four-wheeled companion! May Megu give you as many memories as Oppie did!
Loved this Rohan. Here are some other Decepticons names for the new car: Galvatron, Cyclonus, Trypticon and Scourge. I wonder what these would become in your mind. Would you add an 'e' or 'u' this time?
Lovely read Rohan. I had written about my feelings when I had to bid farewell to my Chevy a few years back. But you’ve taken this concept to a whole new level. Brilliant writing.
Oppie and Megu. Lovely. I have not named things yet but i do talk to them. The fridge when it acts funny, a little chiding and it is back on track. Bose speaker on the verge of dying revive themselves when i tell them it is time to retire them after all. And of course, there is the house. I am so glad there are others like me. We are kindred souls. It is only human. We are crazy humans!!!!! super as always Rohan.
I used to project personalities and feelings onto inanimate objects all the time as a kid! I would get sad if someone threw my toy or something, because I felt like it would hurt the toy. Stuff like that. I have names for my car and my laptop these days, but that's about it. My car is called Night Rider as it's black, and my computer is Nimue V. (RIP, Nimues I - IV.) I've resisted naming my phone because I'm already too attached to it and I don't need to make things worse. 😅
Loved this... have spent the best year of my life packed into Dhanno with seven of my best friends, going to college all the way across Delhi. She was a gorgeous green Maruti 1000, no volume buttons on steering, no power steering.
My parents just said bye to their car after nearly 10 years last month too — so definitely feel you, Rohan. We’re still in the mourning period, although I hear my dad has come around to shopping around for what I can only imagine is my new metallic sibling.
If anyone tells you that naming material objects is not normal, leave that person. You don't need that kind of negativity in life.
Also, how about Maglu -- somewhat resembles Megatron and has a strong Harry Potter reference as well. Eagerly waiting to see the photo of the younger brother of Oppie. :D
Won’t Megu have some evil strain of DNA in him thanks to great grandpa Megatron. It could mean that when you are trying to go slower than the cyclist, Megu may change the gears and the script. Names are important, my friend.
"It is only human, I suppose, to get excited at the prospect of a new relationship."
Ok ok ok. No worries, no worries.

Haha, never too late to start, Reshma! :D
lol. Trouble brewing 😄
Surely, Mangesh instead of Megu? Just me?
Mangesh, no. But Mangu is being taken into consideration.
*Just* you and some x chromosonal creatures 😂

Thank you! I'm glad this spoke to you. :)
A very amusing and heart-touchig piece,I really enjoyed it from the beginning to the end.
Thanks a lot! :D

Haha, thanks, Abhishek. Great suggestions, I like the sound of Galvu.

Thanks a lot, Sourabh. Very kind of you. :)
Yes, I remember reading your piece.
Never named my possessions this way but this made me miss my first car! As always, clever writing, Rohan!
Thanks a lot, Sanobar!

Oh yes, talking to objects is the only way to keep them happy and functional. You're not alone, Savvy, not at all.
Thank you for reading and for your always-generous comments!

Hahaha, those are excellent names. Thanks for reading and I'm glad this resonated! :)
Sandy giving major Wilson from Cast Away vibes.
Haha. Yeah, definite inspiration.

Oh man, the Maruti 1000 (a.k.a Esteem, right?) was iconic.
Dhanno's story can be the preface to the book you need to write about your cross-continental road trip. :)
Loved this piece and can infinitely relate to naming and anthropomorphizing all the things.
Thank you! Glad this resonated. :)

Ah, it's tough man. I welled up when we left him at the dealer's.
Congratulations to your parents on the car/ family member!
Bye bye sweet cupcake box, you were indeed very cute
And hello Sandy - it’s nice to see you and your “smile” again
I knew you'd remember Sandy. ❤️

Thanks, Abhishek! Fully agree and Maglu is being discussed.

Hahaha! Didn't consider that, tbh. I just thought everyone deserves a second chance. Will need to think about the consequences...
