I, too, abandoned the beautiful game, though my exit was less poetic than yours. I always told myself I stopped playing after my father passed away - a noble, melancholic reason that made me sound thoughtful and profound. But the truth is far more embarrassing: I quit after getting drunk on a weekend afternoon, confidently striding onto the field with my friends, and then spectacularly missing an approaching ball to kick a brick with all my might instead. My knee still remembers that moment of athletic brilliance.
Oh man, that is quite a farewell. But it's never a final goodbye, is it? There is the nagging desire to keep playing the one-off game, rue the decision the next morning, and then rinse and repeat after a few weeks.
I still don't know the difference between padel and pickleball. But I can attest to the fact that my cricket crazy cousins are now booking weekly slots to play padel/pickleball (I don't remember which).
Also, medium roast pour overs (iced in this Mumbai weather) are the best post-game drink.
One word: Sacrilege.
Okay, three more: How dare you?
In the words of the poet: Nothing lasts forever/ And we both know hearts can change.
🤣🤣
hahhaha
Hahaha really enjoyed this! Been wanting to try padel but end up asking myself if I really need this new expense in my life?! 🤣
You must, and you absolutely don't! 🫣
Hahaha...oh man.
Thank God it is atleast Padel....not pickle ball....
Hahaha, yeah, some solace in that!
This was such a delight to read :D and it's always the goddamn socks! Rene Girard would agree, I'm sure.
Thanks a lot, Bharati! Glad you liked it.
Yes, socks are irresistible.

Absolutely, and I've felt this way for many years, but age is now against me. 😂⚰️
I judge padel people. Sorry. But nice piece!
You're not alone in passing judgement. I'm treating this as karma for all the hate I've spewed on box cricket.
This is a first. Get yourself checked Rohan. Football to Padel, impossible or you are busy spinning one for us.
Good one :-)
PS: Thanks for clarifying that Padel and Pickleball are different games. I just assumed Pickleball must be Padel in Mumbai :-)
Thank you! It's all too true, sadly.
Nice article Rohan. Quite engaging, it kept me hooked throughout.
Thanks, Sourabh. Glad you enjoyed it. :)
First I’m hearing about Padel 😮 looks like fun! But not as fun as reading your post!
Thanks so much, Pritam! 😃
Do give it a shot if you get the opportunity.
A Padel Shot you mean 😀
Definitely. :)

Iced pour overs hit the spot.
I hope it's padle. If not, I hope they don't read my description of pickleball. 🫣
Great writing Rohan. Tell me when you get over this sport 😁😁Haven't played it though. Don't like the optics of it 😁😁
Thanks a lot, Sanjay! I've well and truly taken the bait, course reversal looks unlikely.
but then, 'It’s just a game, man.'
Always. Thank you for reading!
Too good as is, but made even better by David Tennant meme. Everyone I know, including hubby, is also bitten by the padel bug. Thank God I am lazy.
David Tennant is an icon.
Give it a try! And thank you for the kind words! :)
How rohan? 🤨
How??????? 🤨
how can it be so SUPER every fucking time. 🙈
🤩 lovely.
Hahaha, thanks so much, Savvy. You're too generous. Glad to know you enjoyed it. :D
Great read as always! So many laugh out loud moments 😂
Music to my ears. :) Thanks a lot, Amrita!
