Can I ask why you chose a different beginning here and the IE piece? (Love the essay, btw. Good review essays prompt me to watch movies much more than trailers)
The IE piece was not intended as a movie review and I got editorial feedback to cut the bits describing scenes from the movie. The brief there was to focus on the theme (immigration, relationships, etc.).
But I thought I could use those bits in this essay to make it more visual for the reader, if that makes sense?
Yes that makes a lot of sense. I am only wondering if the IE beginning could have worked here too- without the mention of the other movies/trailers. But I guess that adds a personal perspective.

Thanks a lot, Soumya! Glad you liked it. :)

Yeah, the reference to Pacific Rim was just me being self-indulgent haha.
Even I was intrigued by the trailer when I first saw it, but I might have to wait now till it comes out on some OTT platform :(
Hopefully it'll start streaming soon. Do watch, it's wonderful!
